Between Weathers Development Producer – Amanda Verlaque
Amanda has over ten years experience as a script editor, storyliner and producer. She has worked for BBC Northern Ireland and BBC Scotland as well as Magma Films, TG4, RTE, Stirling Film & Television and Waddell Media. Her credits include the multi-award winning, BAFTA nominated BBC One drama Holy Cross and the Scottish BAFTA nominated BBC soap River City.
Amanda also produced the Glasgow romcom feature film Fast Romance, which will soon begin the international film festival circuit.
Amanda said: “I am absolutely delighted to join the Between Weathers team as development producer. When I first read the script I realised I was encountering something very special. It’s also a joy to be collaborating with Marc Pye again. He’s one of the most gifted writers I have had the pleasure to work with. And after a number of creative sessions with director Jim Brown I understood the source of the magic of Between Weathers. This is a story these guys are bursting to tell and their passion and emotion has resulted in the most credible and engaging realisation of Scottish rural life since Local Hero.
What also struck me about Between Weathers was the energy and positive vibe I felt for the characters and their dilemmas. This is an island where inhabitants have a fight on their hands and they step up to the plate in some of the most humourous and heart warming scenarios imaginable. The story belongs to a recently rediscovered genre in Scottish filmmaking: the upbeat tale that doesn’t have to rely on negative stereotypes to depict Scotland and its people”.
Jim Brown said, “Amanda was introduced to me by Marc Pye. Although I have known of her work this is the first time that our paths have crossed. She has an infectious personality and her enthusiasm for the project is inspirational. Creative meetings between Amanda, Marc and I are never dull, acting out character scenarios in the middle of a restaurant can be a real head turner. I’m delighted that she is on board, even if it’s just to get the inside track on my favourite soap, ‘River City”
